Workhorse Electric has come out with its new Electric Pickup Truck. Those in mistrust of EV grunt, take heart: the vehicle is loaded with plenty of power and strength. It measures up to an ICE just fine.
Powered by Panasonic-sourced lithium ion battery cells placed near all four wheels, the Workhorse W-15 makes what converts to a total of 460 horsepower, enough juice to give the truck a stop-to-60 time of 5.5 seconds. This large battery unit also serves as a power source for things like electric tools; it offers an output of up to 30 amps. Useful.
The all-electric range is only 80 miles, but thanks to an onboard gas-powered generator, the driver is able to reach up to 310 miles per tank. Those interested in being as green as possible can take heart, too: the gas-powering is intended only for contingencies. Fossil fuels are here relegated to the back burner, as it were.
Other features? How about a 2,200-pound tow capability, a lane-departure warning system for added safety, and a digital dashboard for easy reading of vehicle information, for starters. It’s a well-designed beast of burden, this Workhorse.
Made in Loveland, Ohio, Workhorse Electric has built its own chassis and crafts the bodies of its Pickup Truck with carbon-fiber reinforced plastic. This allows the Workhorse protection from corrosion, and also makes the vehicle much lighter than any other of its size, improving its power-to-weight ratio.
When all is said and done, it is quite impressive that Workhorse Electric has completed a plug-in pickup capable of mimicking the numbers of a gas-powered model. And a little auspicious, too.
