Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have sold two of their three Pacific Palisades homes. The powerful Hollywood couple had owned the linked properties for about a decade, and sold them for $17.5 million. The buyer purchased the properties collectively.
One of the homes is designed in the Spanish Revival style, and dates to the early 1930’s. The other, a California midcentury riff on an English country house, dates to the middle of the 1950’s.
The Spanish is a typically charming upscale Los Angeles home, measuring a little less than 4,000 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and 4.5 baths. It’s detail-rich, and features original mixed-size plank flooring, built-ins and paneling, and open-trussed ceilings. The ceilings of the common living area are carefully designed, and bring the softness and visual interest of intersecting arches to the interiors. Wall niches, fireplaces and, in the living room, a window seat add to the atmosphere. The kitchen has been remodeled with an eye to simplicity, and features a skylight addition.
The English-style home features beautiful, high-gloss finished inlaid hardwood floors, marble fireplaces, skylight additions in the kitchen and dayroom, and a living room that is very 1950’s: lots of dark wood, and a substantial fireplace in brick. It features a wet bar, sunroom, and a series of sets of French doors opening onto the property.
Between the two lots, the total size of the land purchased comes to a little over an acre. Generously proportioned lawns and gardens enhance the wooded neighborhood.
Tom Hanks’ most recent screen performance is in ‘The Circle’, released last month. Rita Wilson appeared in last year’s ‘My Big Fat Green Wedding 2’, which she also executive-produced.
