Porsche has asserted itself yet again as the pre-eminent sports manufacturer; besting the Ferrari 488 GTB in the process by a good margin, the 2018 911 GT3 ran the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 12.7 seconds.
That’s a lot of performance for a car that is designed to be a daily driver, albeit a quick one with nimble moves. The 2018 GT3 prices out at less than $150K, making it a superior bargain for those drivers who prefer road-adrenaline over coffee on the way to the office in the morning.
The newest incarnation of the GT3 features a non-charged 4.0L flat six engine. Porsche based the engine on the engine fitted to the GT3 R, and it will produce 500 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. And, appealingly to sportcar drivers drawn to the traditional experience, the 2018 GT3 will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as a no-charge option. The seven speed paddle-shift will remain the default, for those who like the quicker response and increased fuel economy of a dual-clutch automatic.
The drivetrain of the 2018 911 GT3 will take the car from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds; the model will come very close to a 200MPH top speed, culminating at 198. Airflow is improved on the new model with a new rear diffuser, front spoiler, and rear wing.
U.S. pricing for the 2018 911 GT3 begins at $145K, including associated fees.
