Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and wife Susan have listed their house in Sherman Oaks. The couple is asking $3.85 million for the property.
The attractive Spanish-style ranch house dates to the mid-1930’s, and measures about 5,500 square feet. It contains six bedrooms and 5.5 baths.
Set on a lovely half-acre lot, the home presents a terrific contrast with its verdant surroundings—a brick patio, terra-cotta tile roof and whitewash provide the classic look of a California Spanish style of the period in its native environment. Exterior lantern sconces, exposed beams, and mature trees incorporated into the patio provide embellishments to the heady atmosphere presented by the home.
The interiors have retained their rustic period charm; tile floors, raw, open-trussed ceilings, a tile-accented fireplace, and evocative lighting distinguish the open-concept living and dining area. The kitchen and dayroom feature tile floors, backsplashes, and countertops, and fixtures that carry through the historical motifs.
Ceilings throughout are vaulted, offering a nice feeling of liberation from room to room, with the occasional skylight heightening the effect. The bedrooms, in particular, are very open and bright, with the master opening onto the patio, and working a fireplace into the layout.
The property contains a guest house, which is detached and self-contained, features its own patio; there is also a barn currently purposed as a fitness center and studio/office.
McKagan was a founding member of Guns N’ Roses, and played with the band during its heyday; he left to pursue a variety of supergroup projects before returning to the band last year.
