Pundit of the professional sports world Jim Rome has accepted an offer on his house in Orange County. The radio and television personality sold the home in Irvine for $12.5 million. Rome had the house custom built in 2007, and put it on the market late last autumn, with an initial asking price of $13.995 million.
A Mediterranean style villa leaning heavily toward Italianate, the home extends to 12,300 square feet. The house contains six bedrooms and 8.5 baths, and is situated in the Shady Canyon golf community.
The home’s exterior and interior color schemes are Tuscan earth tones. The exterior features a nice blend of window sizes, and an arcade porch entrance.
Inside, the home is very ornate, and the main floor’s layout is designed around a colonnade. A limestone fireplace and mantel, crown moldings, and period light fixtures also mark the interior, although more modern recessed fixtures are used in the design as well. Ceilings are very detailed; the great room ceiling is a barrel-design, the living room coffered. Floors are tile, or high-gloss hardwood. The home’s three floors are serviced by an elevator.
The music room or salon, which contains a wet bar, opens via three sets of French doors onto the property exterior, and the house offers outdoor access frequently. The master suite—which incorporates a sitting room, and features a pattern ceiling—also contains three sets of French doors, leading to a terrace with lovely views of the area.
The home’s amenities include a wood-paneled billiards room with wet bar, a fitness center, and a home cinema.
The one acre lot nestles an infinity pool, large patio and grill/outdoor dining area, lawns, and formal gardens. A separate fireplace and patio is tucked away into one corner of the property.
Jim Rome has worked in radio and television on networks CBS, ESPN, FX, and Fox Sports. He currently hosts The Jim Rome Show on CBS Sports Radio.
