The Los Angeles residence owned by late comic actor Doris Roberts will soon come up for sale. Roberts purchased the house in the mid-1970’s, and called it her West Coast home until her death last year. The asking price is $2.45 million.

The place has a few stories to tell; it was constructed in 1927 for producer Hal Wallis, whose credits include ‘The Maltese Falcon’ and ‘Casablanca’, as well as western epics ‘Gunfight at the O.K. Corral’ and ‘The Sons of Katie Elder’; it was later owned by James Dean.

Measuring a little more than 3,700 square feet, and containing three bedrooms and four and one-half baths, the Spanish Revival style home presents a pleasing blend of interior architecture. The hand carved exposed beams, fluid fireplace design and enclosed second-floor terrace are contrasted with simple, steel framed French doors and windows, and period light fixtures. Floors are high-gloss original hardwood.

The home features a family room with wet bar, a formal dining room, and a kitchen with butler’s pantry. The master comprises much of the top floor of the residence, and incorporates a pair of walk-in closets; a second bedroom is placed on the other side of the top floor, and a third downstairs, off the family room.

Situated on a double lot, the house features lovely views of the city and coast. The lot is quite private, with high walls and plentiful vegetation demarcating the property, and a patio, outdoor kitchen, and brick pool worked into the design.

Roberts’ list of film credits includes Walter Matthau vehicle ‘The Taking of Pelham One Two Three’ and ‘The Honeymoon Killers’; she’s best known for her role on the long-running sitcom ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’.
