Lexus has spent the past decade revamping its image as an automotive brand; the last few years have seen an aligning of marketing strategies globally, and an attempt for the company to position itself once again as a broad-spectrum leader in the luxury car market.
As Lexus unveiled the new NX SUV crossover at the Shanghai Motor Show, broad-spectrum might have been called the brand’s new watchword, as the model’s options comprise a dizzying variety.
While the changes may be subtle in the new mid-sized crossover, the overall design aesthetic comes across as edgier and sharper than previous iterations of the NX. The new NX looks lower to the ground thanks to a lower rear bumper, wider taillights, and a front fender and bumper set that are now more integrated into the design.
Powering the NX is a smaller and more efficient four-cylinder engine, with Lexus giving the top-of-the-range model a hybrid option. There is also a built-in Adaptive Variable Suspension option borrowed from the LC500 model.
When all is said and done, all available options of the new NX constitute 650 combinations, a considerable leap from the 30 iterations the outgoing model offered.
The revised NX SUV is slated to start at $36,000.
