House-hunting in Los Angeles, Jay-Z and Beyoncé have reportedly set their sights on one of the priciest homes currently for sale in the city—a Bel Air spec house with an asking price of $135 million. The couple allegedly submitted an offer for it: $120 million.
The East Gate property has been more or less quietly offered off-market for some months. It’s a gigantic glass contemporary, essentially, built into a hillside, and incorporating half a dozen connected structures encompassing 30,000 square feet of interior living space. All told, there are eight bedrooms and eleven baths.
A comprehensive vision of home life, the house doesn’t leave very much wanting. A home cinema with tiered seating, a library with Brazil wood built-ins and, on a lower level, a professional office or studio space, and a massive fitness center with a sauna, hot tub, and gymnasium are a few of the home’s amenities.
Floors are accessed via a spiral staircase with marble treads, and the glass walls are automated. Bedrooms are bright and open; as in the rest of the house, all the glass gives them a terrific sense of flow, and private balconies or terraces allow for private outdoor reflection.
The property exterior sprawls to 10,000 square feet of living space amid the 1.88 acres of grounds. There are four pools in the design, and storage facilities for fifteen cars, as well as a basketball court; staircases connect the various levels, and a nice stretch of groomed lawn looks out over Los Angeles.
Collectively, Jay-Z and Beyoncé are worth almost a billion dollars. Jay-Z has taken home an astonishing 21 Grammy Awards; Beyoncé has 22 to her credit. She’s one up on you, Jay.
Both musicians are also actors, designers, and producers.
