Green Day’s Mike Dirnt has listed a pair of coastal California properties for sale. The powerhouse bassist has listed a beach house in Newport for sale at $3.8 million; he’s also put a Montecito home for sale, with an asking price of $4.8 million.
Both properties are cottage-style, with the Newport home quite a bit more conservative in design. A New England aesthetic grounds this residence, with a shingled exterior, shiplap, and plank ceilings. A pleasant, if somewhat bland, blend of whitewash, and beige and cool tones is used as a palette.
The house dates to the late 1960’s, and has been updated, with a good dose of marble and stainless in the first floor and second floor kitchens among the renovations; the house is designed as a multi-family getaway, and contains five bedrooms and four baths, as well as separate common living areas, within its 2,500 square feet of interior living space.
By far the more appealing of the properties, though, is the house in Montecito. The design is more in keeping with the inventive quality of classic beach cottages, and makes the most of what must be a rather small lot size with a neat approach. Barrel ceilings, and a pull-down staircase accessing a rooftop deck defy expectations just enough, and the décor comes straight out of the 1950’s, with Japanese glass buoys and antique rhino chasers used as embellishments. The home has been updated with a tasteful kitchen, and teak and Brazil-wood floors and cabinets.
The beachfront home looks out onto Miramar, and measures 1,186 square feet. It contains three bedrooms and two baths.
Mike Dirnt co-founded Green Day in the late 1980’s with lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong. The band’s last studio effort—2016’s Revolution Radio—was well received.
