Jeep has created what it calls the most powerful SUV to date with its new supercharged off-roading behemoth, the 2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which made its debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show.
Powering this beast is an engine borrowed from Jeep’s sister company Dodge. The Hellcat V8 engine pumps out 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque across all four of the Trackhawk’s wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. To handle all of this power, Jeep specially strengthened the driveline components and the gearbox.
Across the SUV lineup, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk comes in as the industry’s quickest. The impressive vehicle is able to reach 60 mph from stop in just 3.5 seconds, ripping through a quarter-mile in only 11.6 seconds, and topping off at 180 mph.
Not only is the Trackhawk racetrack fast, it also has the ability to tow 7,200 pounds thanks to the powerful Hellcat V8 engine, which can handle far more than its own 5,300-pound dry weight.
Drivers will be able to customize their driving experience via five preset modes: Auto, Sport, Track, Tow, and Snow. These modes adjust torque distribution, transmission shift times, and suspension firmness to compensate for road, off-road, and load conditions.
Jeep expects the 2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to hit sales floors at the end of 2017. Pricing has yet to be revealed by the company.
