High drama of the Gothic type is all the rage on the roads these days, and Maserati’s special edition Ghibli fits right in. The company unveiled the limited production car at the New York Auto Show. They’re calling the model ‘Nerissimo’—that’s Italian for very black.
And, with the exception of the brake calipers, which are finished in blood red, it is a very black car. Gloss-finished black 20-inch Urano wheels, black door handles, black window trim, and black grille features distinguish the model. The interior features an extended dose of black leather, with red stitching and gear-shift paddles to compliment the calipers; trim is in Dark Mirror. The interior also features a Nerissimo badge on the center console, reminding passengers that the vehicle is one of 450 examples produced.
The mechanics of the 2017 Ghibli are unchanged, Nerissimo or no Nerissimo: a Ferrari-built 3.0L twin-turbo V6 with an eight speed automatic gearbox. The drivetrain will take the top model—the Ghibli S Q4—to 60 in 4.7 seconds, and a top speed of 176MPH. But a Nerissimo edition will look better doing it.
All Nerissimo Ghibli models feature blind spot assist, front and rear parking sensors, and remote start; S and S Q4 variants receive a Harmon Kardon sound system as well, a nice treat for the audiophile driver flush with the DSD-remastered Siouxsie and the Banshees box set.
Pricing for the Nerissimo edition Ghibli starts at a little over $77K, and extends to $86.5K for the S Q4.
