A Los Angeles estate owned by Balthazar Getty is back on the market. The oil scion purchased the home in 2003 for $2.15 million; the property has re-listed with an asking price set at $9.85 million. It had been listed previously at $10.5 million.

The modern house has seen extensive renovations under Getty; it’s currently designed with a spare, Eastern-influenced aesthetic. The design champions interior-exterior fluidity, keeping ornament to a minimum. Whitewash, white oak, and retractable glass distinguish the home. Light fixtures are LED strip or recessed; nary a chandelier or pendant to be found. Ceilings are 10’ throughout.

The home features inset bookcases in the living room, making the room as much a study as an entertainment space. The kitchen features an integrated dayroom, and cabinetry which appears to be teak; the home may have been renovated with a green sensibility, and rooftop solar panels are in liberal use. The kitchen island is in slab marble, in step with current fashion. As with most of the other rooms in the house, the kitchen and dayroom opens broadly onto lawn and view.

Many of the bedrooms follow suit, and take advantage of the hilltop location, opening onto patios or balcony. There are six bedrooms—all en-suite—and an additional five full and half baths throughout the main residence and the guest house.

Balthazar Getty’s creative interests extend to music and acting; he appeared in David Lynch’s 1997 film ‘Lost Highway’, and is a member of the L.A.-based band Ringside.
