BMW has introduced an innovative hybrid motorcycle that will knock your socks off. With its horsepower rating, that may be no idle threat.

The new RS1200GS xDrive Hybrid is a 2-wheel drive bike that boasts a 45-horsepower front hub motor to increase the maximum output of the bike to 170 horsepower.

To accommodate for the new hub motor, BMW has switched the model to a single disc brake system. To compensate for the loss of a second brake, the special BMW hub features a regenerative brake that is wired into the RS1200GS’ ABS system.

The hub motor is also worked into the traction control system, to prevent the additional 45 horsepower from causing the RS1200GS to slip out from under the rider.

One of the most appealing design features of the hybrid? The electrical components don’t cause the model to gain any weight. Even with the extra motor, battery, and control systems added on, the xDrive Hybrid version weighs the same as the standard model.

BMW has slated the RS1200GS xDrive Hybrid to arrive in its showroom floors during the latter half of this year.
