NBA legend Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway has listed his Miami-area home. The former Orlando Magic point guard has listed the home at $3.799 million. Hardaway picked up the home in 2009, for a little more than $3.65 million.
The Floridian Mediterranean dates to 2007, and is generously sized: it measures at a little over 8,600 square feet, and contains six bedrooms and 7.5 baths. The house has seen considerable renovating, updating and personalizing under Hardaway’s ownership.
The approach to the home is nicely executed, with a herringbone brick drive and motor court; the latter is centered with a landscaped island surrounded by pilasters and wrought-iron, and the build worked existing flora nicely into the design of the house, giving it a charmingly antiquated feel.
The double-height foyer is ornate, setting the tone for the rest of the house: wrought iron, natural stone, columns, and inlay. Designed for a generally period feel, details like the sets of stained-glass French doors and matching transoms, which separate the great room and living room, are pretty representative.
Ceilings are individual, with pocket or coffer designs and carved wood moldings, and lighting is an understated contrast of modern and period-influenced fixtures; baths follow suit, each offering a different visual appeal. Warm tones predominate throughout the home, and there’s a variety of hardwood used for flooring.
The home features a fitness center (naturally), home cinema, office and study, and large kitchen with daylight dining room.
The property extends to a little less than an acre, and the layout works quite a bit of outdoor living space into the lot. A brick patio (continuing the herringbone motif), freeform pool, outdoor grill and prep area, children’s play area, and basketball court are included in the design.
Hardaway’s career led him from the Magic to the Suns, and from New York back to Florida, where he finished his professional playing career with the Heat. He was an All-NBA player, and helped the U.S. team take home a gold medal in the 1996 Olympics.
