‘Mad Men’ star Jon Hamm has picked up a green contemporary in Los Feliz. The actor paid a little under $3.4 million for the property—within a pittance of the asking price of $3.389 million, or right on the money.
The Japanese-influenced design incorporates a meditative atmosphere and green building materials; the lower half of the home’s exterior—and the entry portico—is sheathed in cedar, and the interior incorporates white oak, Douglas fir, natural stone, and high end green finishes like clay-based paint, which imparts an earthy, complex matte finish to surfaces.
The interior is very, very stylized, and the quietly formal feel won’t appeal to everyone. Natural wood and whitewash predominate, giving the residence a bright, dreamlike quality. Light fixtures are subdued, and hanging units illuminate softly. Ornament is at a minimum, and texture is limited to variations in wood grain and stone. It’s an appealingly literate living space, uncluttered by any desire to beguile.
The home measures a little over 3,500 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and 4.5 baths; all bedrooms are en-suite. The bright master bedroom is augmented with a large walk in closet, and a master bath that, in keeping with the rest of the house, offers light and space as an alternative to fussy design.
The exterior living space includes a 28’ saltwater pool, a wraparound deck in redwood, and an outside kitchen and dining area.
Jon Hamm took home an Emmy and Golden Globe for his role as Don Draper in AMC’s ‘Mad Men.’ His next screen appearance will be in Edgar Wright’s ‘Baby Driver,’ due to be released theatrically in June; the role gave Hamm a chance to act alongside Jamie Foxx and Kevin Spacey.
