Taylor Swift’s Former West Village Carriage House Hits the Market at $24.5M

A Greenwich Village carriage house with associations to Taylor Swift has hit the market. The owner—who rented to Swift for a few months in 2016—has listed the property with an asking price of $25 million. That’s down a little bit, as the place had been initially listed with an asking price set at $27 million, with an option to rent at about $40K/monthly. Which is where Swift entered the picture.

The house is a striking residence with historical significance; its current owner has updated it, and added a peaked and partially enclosed rooftop addition after much wangling through Landmarks Preservation Commission red tape, and several years of construction. Other elements of the redesign include a basement swimming pool with a sky-lit concept ceiling; the pool measures a cool thirty feet, and represents some artful engineering. The basement renovations added a couple of thousand square feet of living space.

Upstairs, the Cornelia Street residence—which is a former stable, constructed in 1912—features beautifully inlaid hardwood floors, a double-height great room, contrasting subway tile, and very high ceilings, probably 12’. Light fixtures are a blend of fairly ornate period chandeliers and ceiling units; the deco chandelier in the south master is especially charming. There are third-floor terraces off the master and south master suites, as well as rooftop lounge and entertainment areas beyond the penthouse addition.

Taylor Swift apparently rented the property while her Tribeca penthouse was undergoing revision. It must’ve been a little difficult to leave the carriage house, though; the details are fairly stunning.
