This may be the ideal backyard cooking companion. We know it’s perfect for day-trips.

It’s called the GoSun Grill, and it uses no combustion in its cooking process. The new grill uses mirrored aluminum reflectors to aim sunlight right at the food items, which are securely protected in a borosilicate glass vacuum tube.

The GoSun is able to bake, cook, broil, fry, and roast nearly anything—meats, veggies, soups, and bread—in a 30-pound stainless steel unit. The grill comes with two cooking trays for liquids, so users can boil items.

A little different than the usual fire up and cook method of outdoor gas grilling, the GoSun Grill needs to be preheated, which can be accomplished even with overcast skies. For those of us who remember charcoal, though, or still use it, the preparation process isn’t much longer.

From there cooking simply requires sun, and a keen eye to look out for steam to indicate the item is ready or nearing completion.

The family size GoSun Grill is available for $799. The brand also offers smaller units, such as the GoSun Sport, perfect for camping, backpacking, or smaller meals.
