Wrist-wear for the Jules Verne fan.
Jacob Arabo’s Jacob & Co. continues to impress fans of haute horology with the release of the new Astronomia Octopus wristwatch, the latest edition to the New York-based brand’s Astronomia tourbillon collection.
Lurking at the heart of the sapphire monoblock casing is an eye-popping octopus sculpture, setting the tone for the mystery that lies beneath and appearing to grasp the Astronomia gravitational triple-axis tourbillon. An earth and moon represent tidal influence, and the piece is outfitted with an Atlantic-blue alligator strap.
Because of the transparent monoblock case, which first appeared with Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia Flawless edition, the complication inside the timepiece appears to float in space, only adding to the deep-sea appeal of the watch.
It took Jacob & Co. 37 weeks to craft the sapphire components of the Astronomia Octopus tourbillon, and much longer to complete a watch many will consider a piece of art. Striking, remarkable, and unique, it’s a spectacular conversation piece, and a creative antidote to the stoic earnestness of many high-end watches.
But is it water resistant to 20,000 leagues?
