Regular speakers from a desktop computer are often lacking fidelity, and we’re just being kind here. Many times they torture your tunes with crackly, tinny, and even a distorted presentation. And, if you like the size-friendly MP3 format but have ears that realize something’s missing, listening to music via computer can be even more frustrating.
Well, Sony wants to put the issue to bed, once and for all, with their new CAS-1 audio system. Tackling the problem in a completely new way, CAS-1 is a high-resolution audio system that features dual built-in amplifiers: one for headphones, and one for loudspeakers.
Most impressively, the CAS-1 has the ability to recreate source frequencies eliminated from compression packaging (like MP3), restoring the immersive Hi-Fi quality to digital listening. And it’ll play high-res files, which is good news for those who want to try their hand at HQ digital downloading, and see what the audiophile at work is always going on about.
And, yes, the CAS-1 can stream high-quality sound to a smart device via Bluetooth, making the audio system much more than a standard desktop model. Sony’s LDAC codec providing three times the speed of normal Bluetooth transfer rates, which translates to a smoother and more three-dimensional presentation.
The CAS-1 MSRP is about $1k.
