Michael McDonald, best known as the lead vocalist for famed 1970s rock band the Doobie Brothers, has offloaded his small getaway cottage on the Hawaiian island of Lahaina for a little more than $1 million.

McDonald picked up the Plantation-style cottage in the summer of 2007 for just under $1.4 million, so he will actually take a loss on the sale.

The cottage is situated on a little over an acre of tropical oasis land in Launiupoko, a high-end neighborhood on the outskirts of Lahaina. The cozy retreat measures in at about 920 square feet, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The five-time Grammy winner and his wife, Grammy-nominated singer Amy Holland, still own a home in the same neighborhood of Lahaina, a 4.5-acre estate in the greater Nashville area, and a ranch-style home in Santa Barbara.

Over his career, Michael McDonald worked with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, and Kenny Loggins. He has most recently collaborated with the rock band Grizzly Bear.
