Chopard’s L.U.C. watches are all beautiful works of art, but its new L.U.C. XPS Twist QF Fairmined offers Chopard enthusiasts a refreshing design element: it’s made with fair mined gold.

Chopard has a partnership with the South American NGO Alliance for Responsible Mining to use fair-mined gold featured on the timepiece. This isn’t the first time Chopard has aligned themselves with the forward thinking production ideal, either.  The same gold was featured on Chopard’s first fair-mined watch, the L.U.C. Tourbillon Qualite Fleurier, which appeared at Baselworld 2014.

The new L.U.C. XPS Twist QF Fairmined will help support the miners who extract the raw materials used for this collection. It even includes a dial that recalls the raw composition of the gold nuggets that are fairly mined.

The slate gray-colored dial comes with an eye-catching grained sunburst effect and is paired with rose gold hands and markers. This dial is housed in a rose gold case that measures in at 40mm diameter, but is only 7.2mm thick.

Powering the L.U.C. XPS Twist QF Fairmined is Chopard’s L.U.C. Calibre 96.09-L, which is COSC certified, beats at 4Hz, and boasts a 65-hour power reserve.

Chopard has paired the L.U.C. XPS with a hand-sewn alligator leather strap–dyed using plant-based pigments–and an 18-carat rose gold pin buckle.

The Chopard L.U.C. XPS Twist QF Fairmined will be limited to only 250 examples, and is offered at $18,480.
