Atlanta Hawks center Dwight Howard has picked up a nice little L.A. getaway. Howard paid $1.75 million for the Tarzana traditional. The property had been listed at $1.799 million.
The 1950’s home has been extensively renovated and modernized, and the interior design is marked by long, clean lines, high ceilings, and recessed lighting. Floors throughout are oak, wide-planked for the most part, providing the grounding influence for the whitewash and very muted cool tones in the open-concept common area. The renovations have really opened the house up nicely, and the vaulted ceilings in most rooms combine with the ornamental windows above eye level for a consistent sense of expanse. The dining room—a glass enclosed alcove with views of the property—is especially appealing, as is the kitchen, which incorporates a breakfast bar into the island and another vaulted ceiling.
The home measures about 4,200 square feet, and contains six bedrooms and 4 baths, one of which is a three-quarter. The master bedroom incorporates a small sitting area, as well as private balcony access. There is a home cinema—set up with curtains and tiered seating—and a gas fireplace in the living room for a bit of atmosphere. The children’s rooms are whimsically decorated.
The property exterior provides plenty of space for relaxing in the off-season, and includes a covered deck, flagstone patio, enclosed pool with elevated spa, and lawns amid a lot which is a little over an acre in size.
Dwight Howard has played with the Magic, the Heat, the Lakers and the Rockets. He signed with the Hawks last summer, reportedly for three years at $70 million.
