Korean tech-tinkerer Naver Labs has produced a pair of conceptual headphones that have the ability to stand upright on their own when not in use. At rest, the new Gravity headphones sit balanced at the apex between horizontal and vertical, and look very poised indeed.

Set at a 45-degree angle, the Gravity headphones don’t have to lay on the table or get crammed in a drawer when the owner doesn’t plan on using them. Instead, the stereophonic unit looks like the headphones are defying gravity, adding to the room’s decor.

And, when in use, the headphones are actually worn on the head at the same angle, a more comfortable orientation. Naver and Kyumin Ha, the headphone’s designer, believe this relieves the usual pressure of tight and constricting units, making the suggestion of a weightless quality functional as well as aesthetic.

Kyumin’s overall design approach is minimalistic, with the geometry and proportion of the Gravity headphones giving them the appeal of both contemporary architectural and audiophile engineering.
