Almost 100 years have passed since the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the union that sparked World War I. This means it’s been almost 100 years since the last example came from the union’s premier watch marque Carl Suchy & Söhne.

Since so few Carl Suchy & Söhne watches still remain, the re-emergence of the brand is as much a celebration of a new company as it is a relaunching of a classic one.

The first new model from Carl Suchy & Söhne has been dubbed the Waltz No. 1, and it combines a stunning design, classic watchmaking features, and a tasteful air of unadorned modernity.

The 41mm case is water resistant to 100 feet, and features a beautiful gulloche pattern divided by vertical and horizontal striping. This minimalistic dial design was clearly inspired by the architectural work of Austrian architect Adolf Loos.

Powering the timepiece is Vaucher Fleurier Manufacture’s VMF 5401 movement, which has a 50-hour power reserve.

The rebooted watchmaker will craft only 22 examples of the Carl Suchy & Söhne Waltz No. 1, with each starting at a little over $6,360.
