Sum 41 band member Deryck Whibley has sold his house in Sherman Oaks. The singer and guitarist accepted $2.05 million for the home; it had been asking the reduced price of $2.249 million as of mid-January. Whibley listed the home last year at $2.799 million, more than a million dollars over his purchase price for the home, which was $1.7 million.
The house was constructed in 2008, and measures 5,312 square feet. It’s a Spanish Eclectic style, and contains five bedrooms and six baths. Classic exterior design flourishes include liberal use of wrought iron, lantern light fixtures, gated balcony, tiled roof and exposed beams. There is an attached pergola in the rear.
The interior of the home is finished in warm wood, whitewash and arched portals. Layout is comfortable and well-engineered; from the double-height foyer, both levels of the home open up nicely from the very beginning. The staircase sconces—lantern-style ornaments—fit with the wide-plank floors, whitewash, and wrought iron staircase balustrade, but may also make the composition feel somewhat overblown. Historical reference shouldn’t feel that much like a veneer. But, then, the more functional recessed lighting throughout relieves the contrivance somewhat.
The dining room ceiling is executed in a three-tiered recess, and features a chandelier which also adheres strictly to the style. The Greek revival fireplace mantle in the living room makes for a nice change of pace. The Victorian-inspired wallpaper in the breakfast room, however, is more jarring than surprising.
The property exterior incorporates a brick patio and pool area, elevated spa, and a nicely landscaped strip of green.
Deryck Whibley formed Ontario band Sum 41 with drummer Steve Jocz in 1996. The bands most recent release is ‘13 Voices,’ released last October.
