You might conclude, at first glance at the pictures below, that the Techrules Ren is a concept car. The futuristic, fighter-cabin styling, the extraordinary claims of horsepower capability, and the innovative design all might lead a casual viewer to that misapprehension.
But the Ren is beyond the concept stage. The Chinese-born supercar is being produced. It will be available as a production car next year, in a ten-example run. Ninety-six of the diesel-turbine assisted electric supercars will be built, at ten examples annually.
With three electric motor configurations, the Ren is built to varying tastes in supercar performance. The vehicle may be ordered with a two-, four-, or six-motor configuration. The top-tier Ren—with two electric motors front, and four rear, is capable of nearly 1,300 horsepower, producing a somewhat terrifying 1725 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is said to be 199MPH, but with a bit of tuning, who knows. And the electric motors will send the car to 60 in 2.5 seconds.
The two- and four-motor configurations produce 429 and 858 horsepower, respectively, and 575 or 1150 lb-ft of torque. The Ren’s range is 124 miles, electric only; with the diesel turbine, and in the most economical drive mode, that is extended to nearly 1250 miles.
The Ren is the brainchild of Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, and the futuristic interior has the romantic avant-garde look of a cutting edge Italian supercar, but taken to its contemporary limits. Dramatic but uncluttered, with leather offset by denim, the interior is as defined a high fashion statement as the car’s exterior. Production will be conducted in Italy.
Pricing has not been finalized by Techrules.
