Hoofer Mark Ballas, who may be familiar to fans of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ has been active in the Los Angeles real estate market of late. The aspiring star picked up a mid-century home near Laurel Canyon for $1.5 million, about $100K over ask; he unloaded a 1970’s Beverly Crest Mediterranean-style for $3.125 million, or $600K more than he paid for the home two years ago.
The home the young entertainer sold measures about 5,000 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and 5.5 baths. This house incorporates some nice architectural design details: the ceilings are open-trussed and vaulted, giving the interior a nice sense of liberation, a pair of fireplaces add a little rustic charm, and lighting has been updated to reflect modern sensibilities. The chevron pattern used for the floors in the common living areas lends some visual interest; elsewhere floors are tile, or simple plank hardwood. A nicely proportioned master suite with walk-in closet fills out the interior. The property makes efficient use of available space, working a bit of lawn, and a brick-bordered patio and pool area, into the profile.
Ballas’ new house measures 2,000 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and two baths. It’s notable features include attractive, mid-toned hardwood floors, hardwood ceilings in finishes various and sundry, and plenty of glass for a nice sense of expansion and plenty of natural light. The kitchen incorporates an effective blend of cool and warm tones, and cottage-style cabinetry.
Ballroom dancer and actor Ballas has appeared frequently on ‘Dancing…’ since 2007, and has won the competition twice.
