Fashion maven Mossimo Giannulli and actor wife Lori Loughlin have listed a Bel Air mansion for sale. The married couple is asking $35 million for the property; they purchased it in the spring of 2015 for $13.995 million, and renovated it extensively. The house was constructed in 1929, and designed by legendary Los Angeles starchitect Roland E. Coate. Interestingly, it was at one time the home of married actors Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland.

Post Giannulli-Loughlin, the home’s interior looks like a different residence; before and after photos reveal the level of alteration, and the care taken in the overall design. At once modernized and softened, the home’s previous incarnation as a rather rigid anachronism has been supplanted by a nice balance of mid-toned hardwood and whitewash, as well as rounded arches and abundant interior/exterior flow. The staircase and ceiling remodel, which appears to be the center of the home, is especially lovely, and invitational.

The revision sought to balance the home’s historic Spanish influences with clean modern lines, and it succeeded. The grandiose Victorian flourishes have been replaced with a less formal style more in keeping with the rambling layout. Occasionally, a bit of neoclassical is used: a colonnade replaces a columned transition as an ornament, suggesting movement instead of weighty solidity. But hard or flashy surfaces may be a little overused; check out the almost unbelievably imposing fireplace mantle in the family room, the gold-toned bar, and the ponderous kitchen island. The composition may be a little deadened, as a result.

Giannulli and Loughlin reportedly sunk millions into the renovation, and it shows. It’s a thoughtful overhaul, and nicely executed. The home measures 12,000 square feet, and now contains six bedrooms and nine baths.

Aside from radical home renovations, Lori Loughlin is kept busy with film and television roles. Her role as Rebecca in ‘Full House’ was reprised in 2016 for Netflix’s ‘Fuller House.’

Mossimo Giannulli founded popular fashion label Mossimo in 1986. He sold the company twenty years later.
