San Francisco-based tech startup Mindset has joined forces with Onkyo to come out with a pair of smart headphones that it says will read your mind.

Neuroscientists and biomedics founded Mindset, and the smart headphones are embedded with a quintet of EGG sensors in order to track the electrical impulses in one’s brain. EEG is the med-tech acronym for electroencephalography. Now that’s a useful acronym.

The EEG sensors allow the Mindset headphones to track whether its users are in a state of concentration, notice when the wearer becomes distracted; the phones can even send an audio cure to bring the owner back to focus if they wander. The system even suggests the exact length of the break your brain needs to return to its most productive state.

The most interesting feature of the Mindset headphones is that the system can collate information, establish a history, and recognize patterns in its wearers brainwaves. It would follow that owners will potentially be able to tailor activities to synchronize with windows of concentration. And all while listening to Deep Purple.

In addition to active noise canceling and Bluetooth connectivity, the construction of the Mindset headphones includes gently cradling ear cups thanks to a gyroscopic hinge. The cups are crafted from microfiber, too, which is much cooler and a lot less sticky than the leather traditionally used in high-end headphones.

Mindset will ask $349 for its new headphones when they are available for retail. Interested parties can get their hands on a pair for a discounted price via Kickstarter, which is offering deals for grabbing two or more pairs of the Mindset headphones.
