Golf pro and champ Fred Couples made quick work of his La Quinta home sale; the property was snapped up in a few weeks by NBA ex-player and exec Jerry West. The home passed to West for $2.8 million. Couples purchased the house in 2009, for $3.075 million.
The house is a Mediterranean Revival style, with pretty strong Spanish Revival influences, and a bit of Italian influence thrown in for additional detail. Balconies and arcades, a nice mix of window shapes, use of stone, stucco and wrought iron, and sandstone pediments characterize the blend.
The house probably dates to the mid 2000’s. It measures 5,200 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and 4.5 baths throughout, and two floors of living space. Floors are tile, or mid-toned hardwood which looks—or is intended to look—reclaimed, antique, worn. There is an emphasis on dark wood in cabinetry and accents, and walls are generally whitewashed. Ceilings are typically vaulted, occasionally open-trussed. Lighting runs from recessed to lantern to Spanish Mission chandelier. Fireplace mantles are limestone, and there is a pleasing use of ornamental tile on staircase tiers, and in ornamental recessed wall niches. The kitchen blends stainless, stucco, and tile. A 21st century SoCal amalgam.
The property incorporates numerous outdoor lounge areas and patios, loggias, and decorative features. Views survey the surrounding countryside, and the golf course.
