After 45 years of crafting the perfect wearable cold-weather gear, Patagonia has revealed its own down sleeping bag line. These mummy bags mean business, and are designed to handle moderate winter temperatures.

Like Patagonia’s clothing and other accessories, its two new 850 down sleeping bags are made for the back country. They offer head-to-toe insulation and ratings of 30 and 19 degrees, respectively.

The 19-degree rated bag uses a baffle construction, which features a smaller inner circumference and eliminates sewn-through spaces to ensure the down filling stays lofted.

The 30-degree Patagonia sleeping bag is a lighter and simpler option for those looking to use it for faster treks and shorter ventures; it’s an excellent choice for late fall and early spring trips.

Both Patagonia 850 down sleeping bags are crafted using a super-light ripstop nylon fabric called Pertex Quantum. Use of Pertex renders the bags half the weight and twice as strong as the majority of other available down sleeping bags. The Pertex Quantum nylon is also stitched in a Y-shaped fiber pattern, which increases water resistance. That’s nice if your first night out reveals weaknesses in your rain fly.

The inside of the bags are lined with the same soft synthetic fabric Patagonia uses in its popular Houdini hoodie and pullover jackets, making the interior of the sleeping bags supremely comfortable.
