Wilbur Ross would like very much to move his penthouse in Manhattan’s Briarcliffe building. Ross first listed the property in 2015, and has reduced the price a couple of times in the interim. Toward the end of last year, the listing was asking $18.5 million. Now, approaching the spring of 2017, the property has seen another $2 million cut, to $16.5 million. Ross purchased the home in 2007, for $18 million.
The condo measures about 5,570 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and 5.5 baths. The limestone building was finished in 1922. There is nearly 1,850 square feet of outdoor living space, including a fireplace, balconies, and vine-covered trellis and pergola.
From the gallery—in gilt trimmed dark wood, with inlaid stone floor—the interior design is a bit of a haphazard concatenation. A salon with pine paneling and cabinetry and gilt ceiling, and master bedroom with postmodern recessed ceiling and country-cottage stenciled wide-plank flooring suggest a flair for the adventurous. The master bath is predictably sheathed in a weighty coating of marble. The kitchen is modeled in the commercial style, with utilitarian stainless center island and appliances, and a dark green tiled floor.
The Briarcliffe contains thirty-five units in all. It sits on the corner of 57th and 7th Avenue.
Wibur Ross was confirmed as Secretary of Commerce last week. His net worth is estimated to amount to $2.5 billion.
