Hublot has collaborated with Italia Independent creator Lapo Elkann and Italy-based tailor Luca Rubinacci to come up with its Classic Fusion Italia Independent Collection timepiece; the production run used 60,000 square meters of houndstooth, tweeds, tartans, and other cloths used to complete the dials and straps of the 45mm watch lineup.

Since 2014 Hublot has teamed up with the Italian marques to create unique, signature timepieces, but the two previous collections were based on the Swiss watchmaker’s Big Bang Unico example.

Lapo Elkann brought Italia Independent to life in 2007, with the Italian fashion icon also serving as the Director of Marketing for Fiat, and a marketing associate for Ferrari and Maserati during his career.

Elkann is also currently responsible for Garage Italia Customs, which makes bespoke and fashion-forward versions of luxury cars, boats, and basically anything else with a motor and an interior.

Luca Rubinacci of the House of Rubinacci and the Sartoria Rubinacci in Milan, Italy, is a third generation owner of one of the most famous tailor shops in the world; the business was founded in 1932, and has been a sartorial mainstay ever since. The Rubinacci family has dressed celebrities ranging from the Duke of Kent to singer Bryan Ferry, among a host of other clients around the globe.
