Producer James Skotchdopole has listed a getaway cottage in Malibu. The smaller home is situated above Lechuza Beach, one of the quieter public beaches in the area.
The cottage measures about 1,700 square feet, and contains two bedrooms and two baths. It’s a fairly tastefully executed design, with a smattering of A&C influence, a bit of rustic charm, and a little Eastern influence lending the place a little well-read bohemian charm. The living room fireplace, in stacked slate, and outside fireplace in fieldstone provide the centerpieces of interior and exterior.
Mid-toned hardwood provides the color motif throughout the home, and is allowed to express the interior almost exclusively. Floors, cabinets, windows and French doors are all pleasingly finished alike; not excessively warm or heavy, but contributing substance. The ceilings of the main living space are vaulted as much as they can be, given the roofline, and a couple of skylights have been added to brighten things up a little.
The kitchen combines polished concrete and a little washed-out aquamarine to reference leisurely beachside living, as well as industrial chic. The master bedroom is fairly unadorned, but the bathroom works a couple of ornate columns into the décor.
The house offers several points of egress to the patio, and views of Lechuza. Situated as it is, on the margins of Malibu, the compact house manages to convincingly charm.
James Skotchdopole shared a Best Picture Oscar with director Alejandro Inarritu for 2014’s ‘Birdman’; he also produced Inarritu’s 2015 hit ‘The Revenant.’
