Maxmax, a company that modifies and converts cameras to enable them to shoot in infrared and other unique formats, has revealed a pair of new models that have been tweaked to take high-quality black and white photos.

The New Jersey-based company has released its new Fujifilm X-100S-M and Fujifilm X-Pro1-M, both of which Maxmax claims perform comparably to the Leica M Monochrome–but for much less money than the $7,450 the famed German company demands for its black and white camera.

Since cameras use a color sensor, simply using black and white film doesn’t make the image an entirely authentic monochrome output. Maxmax’s new modified Fujifilms utilize a sensor that has the color filter removed to create a true monochrome-only output, so all of the pixels in the camera receive the same light. The result is a B&W shot with the lush, dramatic contrasts, and subtleties of monochromatic shading, that B&W-philes crave.

Maxmax’s converted Fujifilm X-Pro1-M runs for $2,425, and the X-100S-M carries a $2,600 price tag.
