Brabus Takes the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Cabriolet to the Next Level With a Power Upgrade

Fresh from last year’s transformation of a C63 Sedan, German custom automotive tuner Brabus has turned its attention to a Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet. The finished product is called the Brabus 650, and it takes the standard production C63 from an already-impressive 503HP to—yep, you guess it—650HP, reworking the C63’s twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 to produce a tire-shredding 604 lb-ft of torque.

Brabus rebuilt the engine of the sedan, fitted it with more accommodating turbochargers, and improved the exhaust system for better airflow. The company has followed largely the same path with the ragtop C63. For the engine rebuild of the convertible, Brabus used tougher components to avoid meltdown, larger turbo compressors and a Brabus control unit for smoother and more G-force during acceleration, and programmed the ECU to allow the engine a more broad expression. It’s still limited, but it will now come very, very close to the edge of 200MPH, and 0-62 can now be accomplished in 3.7 seconds—three-tenths of a second quicker than the production C63. Bilstein coilovers and a healthy dose of carbon fiber help keep the 650 glued to the pavement.

The AMG C63 seven-speed auto has apparently not been modified to any degree by Brabus, and that’s all well and good. The C63’s standard exhaust may be switched out for a stainless system with special switchable ‘coming home’ mode, which reduces family and neighborhood disturbance when cruising a quiet street and pulling into the driveway.

The company encourages further customer-ordered customizing, offering interior options to taste.

Pricing may be determined by contacting Brabus.
