Basketball coach Billy Donovan has listed his house in Florida. The one-time Florida Gators mastermind is asking $1.8 million for the home located in Fairhaven, a gated community in Gainesville.
Built in 2002, the New England shingle-style home measures a little more than 6,400 square feet, and contains six bedrooms and 6.5 baths.
The home’s gray and natural stone façade is loaded with Cape Cod character: ornamental windows, turret, and column-supported covered porch. A brick front walk adds to the sense of tradition.
Inside, the double height foyer and hardwood staircase continue the trend. The house is well-designed, and holds a few surprises. In keeping with its southeast location, the interior is modeled with the layout of a tropical home: vaulted ceilings, open design plan, and maximal airflow. Tones vary from very warm to fairly cool, and from muted to somewhat imposing.
Flooring is generally dark-toned wide plank hardwood, which sometimes offsets wall colors in a complementary manner, and sometimes does not. The home seems to be at its best when it takes advantage of light exposure: the breakfast room, with French doors opening onto the property, is especially appealing. There is an enclosed, solarium pool and lounge area for comfortable relaxing when Florida summer is at its least hospitable, and a 600 square foot in-law apartment for guests.
The house sits on about two acres, and features nicely landscaped lawns and gardens dotted with a few mature oaks.
Billy Donovan brought the Gators to two championship wins, in 2005 and 2006. Since 2015 he has been the coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
