It’s not unusual for crashed motorcycles to be born anew as custom projects, but it isn’t very often that a bike specially built for a movie, and crashed on set, is rebuilt.
French custom shop owner Ludovic Lazareth and the team at his eponymous workshop set out to rebuild one such bike. The motorcycle in question is a 1999 Yamaha YZF-R1 that was featured in the cult classic Sci-Fi film ‘Babylon A.D.,’ starring Vin Diesel.
The R1 in question was a pet project for Lazareth. In fact, the bike had already lost its front forks to a previous project, so the Frenchman had to reimagine and rebuild an entirely new front end, giving it a swing-arm setup with custom shocks crafted by TFX Suspension.
Lazareth reworked the entire frame to make the new single-sided swing-arms work at both ends of the bike. They also cut the tail end just a bit.
The R1 was given new carbon fiber pieces, including the body panels, belly pan, and tail hump. Lazareth even made a carbon-fiber covered aluminum fuel tank to complete the desired renegade look.
Usual suspects like Brembo brakes, bits and pieces from Rizoma, and an Acewell digital speedometer were also added to the custom R1.
Lazareth will let this little pet have a new home for the right price, about $53,000, depending on the day’s conversion rate.
