Chris Carter, creator of ‘The X-Files,’ has listed his estate in the Point Dume neighborhood of Malibu. The writer has listed the home at $9.95 million.
The home is a single-floor Pacific island-inspired design, with open rooms, open-trussed ceilings. Skylights, dual-sided fireplace, and strictly functional shelf bookcases all add to the bright, easygoing interior.
The house measures 2,981 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and three baths. Interiors throughout are whitewashed, giving the home a sun-dappled quality. The sense of space evoked by the considerable length of the great room is enhanced by all the reflected light. White oak floors allow for no grounding influence, and the living spaces come across as somewhat ethereal as a result. French doors open to the lush grounds, and the verdant, palm-dotted bit of Malibu real estate give it a pleasing context.
The home’s amenities include a large master suite, with French doors opening to a private spa. The home is open concept, with living room, den, kitchen and great room all contiguous.
The home’s exterior features meditative grounds, with romantic-inspired gardens and reflecting pools. A swimming pool and tennis court add a little formality, and there is a pergola, patio, grill and outdoor lounging and dining area. The property measures 1.05 acres.
Chris Carter was a writer and editor at Surfing magazine before turning his hand to screenwriting. His most recent projects include ‘After,’ an ambitious project based on ‘The Divine Comedy’; after the 2014 pilot, the project was scrapped by Amazon over a creative obstacle.
