Former Welterweight Champ Andre Berto Spends $6.2M in Purse Money on a Beverly Hills Home

Professional pugilist Andre Berto has purchased a slick, recently constructed modern home in Beverly Hills. The former welterweight champion took ownership of the house for $6.2 million. The house had been priced at $6.6 million prior to the sale, and initially listed at a sanguine $9.795 million last year.

As a very recent build so strongly influenced by mid-century modern residential architecture, is this an example of a new design style: Modern Revival? We may be that far along in the 21st century, because the design elements are increasingly popular for new home builds.

Many of the classic modern features are here: whitewashed and unornamented exterior and interior; abundant glass for an acute sense of transparency and flow between dwelling and landscape; contiguous open-concept main living spaces; hard angles and intersecting planes galore; second floor terraces with balustrades that playfully but noncommittally hint toward the nostalgia of deco; minimalist fireplaces; and hardwood floors as a warming influence, and textural and natural ballast against all the whitewash. The kitchen is Scandinavian-influenced, another trend seeing resurgence these days, enhancing the stoic, functional, unadorned vision.

Exterior living space is as important as interior, and the house opens to terraces and patio through a series of sliding glass doors and windows. There is a pool/spa, in a design that does not deviate from the overall vision.

Andre Berto held the WBC title from 2008-2011. In 2010 he was active on behalf of Project Medishare’s efforts in Haiti, following the catastrophic earthquake that struck the country in January of that year.
