McLaren’s new Super Series cars, which are to replace the British brand’s 650S model, are receiving a powerplant upgrade. Replacing McLaren’s 3.8-liter Bi-Turbo V8 is the brand new 4.0-liter Bi-Turbo V8 engine.

Called the M840T V8, this engine will feature in McLaren’s new carbon-tube framed supercar that it is, for now, called the P14. The new, larger V8 will press the P14 to jump from standing to 124 mph in 7.8 seconds–a half-second faster than the Ferrari 488 GTB.

McLaren has promised that this new engine will sound even more ferocious than the roar from the 3.8-liter powerplant, assuring McLaren lovers an even more alluring cacophony from the optional sports exhaust.

Showcasing the engine in the P14 is red ambient lighting found in the engine bay, illuminating the McLaren mastery to best advantage.
