Last year Swiss watchmaker Breitling unveiled its new Avenger timepiece. The Avenger featured a 24-hour movement, and a 50mm case crafted from the company’s Breitlight special polymer.
This year the Avenger tradition continues with the new 2017 Breitling Avenger Hurricane 12H, complete with the same 50mm Breitlight case. This time around, though, it’s been paired with what the watch manufacturer has dubbed Caliber 01, a 12-hour chronograph that has become a Breitling staple.
The Breitlight polymer case is incredibly lightweight, and while the 50mm size isn’t made for every wrist, the fact that it is so light for its size is impressive. Breitlight is six times lighter than steel, three times lighter than titanium, and is more scratch-resistant than commonly used case materials. In addition, Breitlight is also anti-magnetic. The watch features a 70-hour power reserve.
The COSC-certified Caliber 01 is Breitling’s first in-house caliber; it first appeared in 2006. It came to fruition after five years of development, and is usually reserved for usage in the Swiss maker’s high-end Chronomat and Navitimer models.
Breitling will offer the Avenger Hurricane 12H for $8,930.
