Elizabeth and Lee Gabler have offered their Malibu beach house for rent. The home—which is situated on the western end of historic enclave Malibu Colony—carries a monthly of $50K, which doubles during high season.
A Cape Cod inspired cottage design, the house measures 3,400 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and five baths. Ornamental arch windows, exposed beam and open-trussed ceilings, dark hardwood floors, and staircase with circular newel and wood spindles all contribute charming coastal New England design elements to the West Coast home. Whitewash is nicely contrasted with muted warm tones—beige or yellow—and the blend of paler and warmer wood.
The home capitalizes well and fairly discreetly on its landscape; given its location, light and free flow between interior and exterior are paramount. The master bedroom, with its vaulted, open ceiling, and French doors capped with an arched bay window, places occupants directly into contact with the beachfront, and a fireplace accents the room nicely; its private dormer is poised above a private second floor terrace.
The property exterior features another charming element: the front walk. In slate, and with a stacked slate riser, it winds through nicely landscaped margins of Southern California flora, including flowering plants and mature trees. A flagstone patio and lounge area, which rises to the beach front deck, rounds out the profile.
Elizabeth Gabler is president of Fox 2000; her husband Lee is a highly regarded T.V. industry executive.
