Amber Valletta’s longtime Santa Monica home has sold. Located in the upscale North of Montana neighborhood, the house fetched $5.015 million; it had been on the market for about three months. Valletta purchased the property in 2001, for $1.65 million.

A Spanish Colonial with Monterey style design elements, the house was constructed in the late nineteen-twenties. It features a gabled, tiled roof, abbreviated balcony with French door access, vigas, and a nice mix of plain and ornamental window styles. An in-law studio apartment has been added, over the three-bay garage.

Within, the house is very free spirited. The gated entrance features a door in cardinal red—a nice oppositional contrast over the soft cool blue of the exterior—and the theme is picked up in the master suite, the heart of the house, where the hand-painted wallpaper is accented with an abstractly hand-painted carmine-on-white ceiling in the master sitting room; the in-law apartment kitchenette cabinetry, too, is cardinal, a little flourish to link the two separate residences.

Elsewhere, the interior is generally cool, with shades of blue offset by the floors, the cabinetry and paneling in the main residence kitchen, and the terra-cotta tile floor of the balcony. Light fixtures are generally understated.

The house measures 2,400 square feet, and makes efficient use of its space: it contains four bedrooms and 3.5 baths. Features of the original home—wide plank floors, wrought-iron staircase balustrade, double garage doors—have been retained, and the combination of historical appeal and artistically-rendered interior design probably account for the asking price—which was considerably above the median for the location and square footage—and the fact that the home sold for $20K above it.

Amber Valletta was a professional model midway into her teens, and has since acted in film and television. She starred in ABC’s 2015 prime-time soap ‘Blood and Oil,’ alongside Delroy Lindo.
