A San Francisco home once owned by Nicolas Cage has reemerged in the marketplace. Cage reportedly purchased the home in 2006 for $9.4 million, and sold it a couple of years later for $8.5 million. It seems an adjacent lot was part of the 2006 purchase price—as it was listed at $1.5 million—but is not included in the current listing price of $12 million. The lot is now offered for sale at $3.5 million.

The Russian Hill mansion contains neo-Gothic and Tudor overtones, as well as key modernizations, and dates to 1914. The façade is fundamentally symmetrical, leading the eye outward from a cross over the sandstone entrance pediment, but contains some nice oppositional accenting and differing window shapes—as well as leaded, stained glass, and wrought iron—which add asymmetrical contrast. The oak front door appears to be original.

Within, there is a neoclassical salon fireplace with a medieval frieze, a tiled living room fireplace, sets of pocket doors, molded Romanesque arches, paneled wainscoting, and original narrow-plank hardwood. But the most curious feature is the second floor men’s master dressing room, which is hardwood paneled, and inlaid and decoratively painted; like the other more interesting features of the home, very stylized.

Kitchens and bathrooms, though, are renovated, and fall more in line with generic contemporary tastes. Many of the less unique original windows, too, have been updated, and the home contains a wine cellar and a room currently used as a small fitness studio. The property exterior has been landscaped with raised garden beds, and park-like layout. The views of the bay, and Alcatraz Island, are lovely.
