Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has re-listed a house in Sherman Oaks, at the reduced price of $2.249 million. The singer and guitar-slinger listed the home last year at $2.799 million, a full million dollars over his purchase price for the home, which was $1.7 million.
A Spanish Eclectic style with Spanish Colonial sympathies, the house was constructed in 2008, and measures 5,312 square feet. It contains five bedrooms and six baths. Classic exterior design flourishes include liberal use of wrought iron, lantern light fixtures, gated balcony, tiled roof and exposed beams.
The interior of the home is finished in warm wood, whitewash and stilted segmental arched portals. The dining room ceiling is designed as a three-tiered recess, which adds a little modern formality, as does the recessed lighting throughout the home. The living room ceiling is vaulted, with exposed beams, again finished warmly. The wide plank floors are toned differently than the inset bookcases, staircase treads and doors, and the resulting contrast is a theme pleasing to the eye. Only in the kitchen, with its overload of dark wood cabinetry, does the effect become heavy-handed. But the kitchen, generally, comes off a little too stylized, and the breakfast nook in ornate black wallpaper makes for a strangely gothic room in which to enjoy the first meal of the day.
Upstairs, the master suite is beautifully designed: bright, expansive, and understated. It contains its own sitting room within an open concept, as well as a gas fireplace, and an access door to the suite’s balcony.
The property exterior features a covered porch, attached pergola, patio, and brick pool/spa area.
Deryck Whibley formed Ontario band Sum 41 with drummer Steve Jocz in 1996. The group’s melding of pop, punk rock and heavy metal influences with melodic sensibilities has made them a mainstay among contemporary rock acts.
