Beck Picks up a Mid-Century Fixer-Upper for $2.7M in Malibu

Grammy-winning freeform art-pop musician Beck has expanded his share of Southern California real estate with this unassuming Point Dume home, constructed in an era when Point Dume real estate was the bargain of Malibu. In 2017, the selling price of this late 1950’s or early 1960’s modern was about $2.7 million; the neighborhood is a little more desirable these days.

Representing an investment opportunity—Beck has dabbled in flipping on and off for the past several years, typically with some success—the home needs renovation, but has potential. Bright and airy with its glass façade, it contains a few nice details, such as inset bookcases, tile floors, and a fireplace with inset tile pattern. The home measures 1,800 square feet and contains three bedrooms and two baths.

The home rests on about an acre of land and is nicely situated near the end of a cul-de-sac in the neighborhood, which is located in the city of Malibu. The land itself surely represents much of the property’s value; with mature trees and open lawn, it is not landscaped and has a little wildness about it. A stunning conifer guards the front entrance of the house.

The Point Dume neighborhood—known as the Malibu Riviera—juts out into the Pacific, and features lovely beaches and dramatic cliffs. Other well-known residents include, or have included, Bob Dylan, Gwenyth Paltrow, Johnny Carson and Josh Groban.
