Georgette Mosbacher has listed her apartment at 1020 Fifth Avenue. The asking price is $29.5 million.

Located across the street from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the apartment occupies the fifth floor of the limestone building, which was completed in 1925. With 20-foot ceilings and 14-foot windows, the apartment’s sense of scale is palatial.

It is equally ornate, with a host of Classical, Baroque and Romantic mannerisms: Ionic columns, an intricately detailed coffered ceiling, neoclassical limestone fireplaces, a world atlas ceiling fresco, and a recessed, gilded ceiling are a few of the striking features of the residence. Floors are original, narrow-plank oak. The corner library offers Central Park views, and contains built-in mahogany bookcases.

The apartment contains a private bedroom wing; the master suite contains a library and two full baths, with one connecting to an adjacent bedroom as a study and dressing/sitting room. There is an en-suite guest quarters.

1020 Fifth Avenue is one of the premier residential buildings in New York City. It was designed by legendary firm Warren and Wetmore, who designed Biltmore and Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York and New Jersey. It contains fourteen apartments, including six duplexes.

Georgette Mosbacher is an cosmetics industry entrepreneur, self-help author, and conservative political activist. She founded the New York Center for Children in 1995; the organization’s mission is to assist abused children and their families.
