CBS News Anchor Scott Pelley Asking $4M for CT Mansion

CBS news figurehead has listed his home in Darien, Connecticut at a loss. Purchased in 2007 for $4 million, the listing price asks $3.985 million.

Measuring 7,532 square feet, and containing five bedrooms and seven baths, the Colonial-style home was constructed in 1998, and rests on nearly two and a half acres. The four columns of the portico, and the double-height foyer, double-staircase and second-floor balustrade beyond set a formal theme that continues throughout the house; the soft red and oak floors of the foyer offer considerable warmth at entry.

Throughout the rest of the home, beige and hardwood predominate, with green marble and stone fireplaces and kitchen countertops and bathroom surfaces. The master bath, entirely in marble, features gold-plated fixtures and brass accents—flashy, and fairly rigid. The paneled library—with fireplace—is just large enough to be cozy in wintertime. None of it is very interesting, but it’s well-crafted, and looks very comfortable.

The property exterior, due to the location, has a nicely expansive feel belying its size. There is a stream-fed pond on the acreage, and an arched bridge, giving the property a little bit of Thornton Wilder appeal.

Scott Pelley’s presence as anchor at CBS has given the network a reputation as a highly credible source of evening news. He has received many awards and, last year, took home the Water Cronkite Award.
