Swiss watch brand Greubel Forsey is set to debut its superb timepiece new timepiece, the Grande Sonnerie, at SIHH 2017. It is the maker’s first-ever chiming watch with maximum precision and has been in the pipeline for over 11 years.

Creating a chiming complication in a movement is one of the hardest feats for a watchmaker to complete from the ground-up, so it’s not really surprising that it took Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey 935 different components and almost a decade to complete.

The Grande Sonnerie comes in a 43.5mm titanium case, and the movement offers a 72-hour power reserve, which is especially impressive considering it takes a lot of juice to use the Grande Sonnerie function that chimes every 15 minutes. In fact, 11 new mechanisms were added to the movement to protect and facilitate the delicate chiming complication.

Greubel Forsey is set to make only eight examples of the Grande Sonnerie timepiece, with each fetching a $1.1 million price tag.
